Tu Khoi, Deputy Head of the Outbound Tourism Division under
Saigontourist, said that the firm plans to organize one tour every two
days as of early the next month. Khoi also said that the firm will send
staffs to Bangkok to explore the situation, after the representative of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in Vietnam announced that the political situation in the country has been stabilized and can ensure security for travelers.
The agency has not made any recommendations concerning if travel firms should resume tours to Thailand at this moment or not.
Representatives
of Fiditour, Vietravel, TST Tourist, Ben Thanh Tourist and
HanoiRedtours all said that they will only resume tours to Thailand after they have more information about the political situation in Thailand.
Meanwhile,
Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh, Deputy Director of Vietnamtourism in Hanoi, said
that her firm will not dare to organize tours to Thailand in June,
saying that tours would be resumed only in July, and only if the
situation gets better.
The political uncertainties in Thailand have forced thousands of Vietnamese travelers to cancel tours to the country. Pichai Raktasinha, TAT Director in HCM City, said that it is estimated that the number of Vietnamese travelers to Thailand has decreased by 50 percent in comparison with the previous year.
